Butler Matrix

Spectrum Control’s series of Butler matrices are a family of high-performance modules, covering several technologies and their associated frequency bands from 0.5 to 7.125 GHz. It transfers the signal reciprocally from any of n-input ports to any of n-output ports, with high phase accuracy, amplitude balance, low insertion loss, and high port-to-port isolation.

Using a Butler matrix in a RF MIMO test environment ensures the signal optimally conditioned for highest throughput.  With high port count a user can test up to 16×16 channel MIMO (WiFi 7) or multiple lower order devices concurrently.  For example, with a 4×4 Butler you could connect a 4-channel source to one or two 2×2 UE’s.  Unused ports should be terminated.  With the 16x16 matrix you could have a 16-channel or four 4-channel sources and several 2×2, 3×3 or 4×4 UE’s. 

Butler matrices deliver maximum power with progressive phase shift to the output in the transmitting mode and collect signals from all beam directions with the full gain of antenna array in the receiving mode.
